Family Opportunities
At Washington Elementary, we value parent involvement and provide various opportunities for families to engage in their child's education through events, conferences and regular communication to support student success.
Back to School Open House: Each year the Fort Wayne Rotary Club sponsors our Back to School Open House by providing a hot dog dinner. Parents and students are encouraged to attend and visit classrooms and teachers. This is an opportunity to learn about classroom and school expectations, find your desk or table space, locate your locker or cubby and meet other parents and new friends.
Student Celebrations: A monthly celebration where families are invited if their child receives the student of the month award. Parents stay after the celebration to enjoy a special treat with their child in the gym.
School Carnival: Held each May, where families are invited to participate in carnival games and a silent auction to raise money for student events and resources.
Title One Family Nights: Each year we hold 3 different events - one for math, one for reading,and one for well-being. Families are invited to participate in fun activities and learn how to support their child at home in these areas. A light snack is provided as well as a takeaway.
PTA - Parent/Teacher Association: We meet at least 4 times a year to discuss the current needs of the school and how parents can support those needs. The Board is composed of parents and staff from Washington. A budget is created for various needs and fundraising efforts help support them. Parent concerns are addressed during these meetings and solutions are sought. Parents have opportunities to volunteer for fundraising events throughout the year.
Parent/Teacher Conferences: These conferences are held in the fall. Parents are encouraged to schedule a time to meet with their child’s teacher. The Book Fair is also held during this time and parents are encouraged to attend with their child to find books they can purchase for reading at home.
Roller Skating Nights: An opportunity for families to interact and have fun roller skating at the Roller Dome North. This is a PTA-sponsored event.
Fall and Spring Concerts: In the winter and spring, we have musical concerts put on by our students. This past year, we were able to hold our winter concert at the new Pearl Arts Center.
